Nissan Murano iPod Kit Installation

Just thought I'd post this in very brief summary of how I got my iPod integration kit to work in my car. I hope this

helps someone, someday if they're ever "Googling" for instructions on how to integrate the iPod in a Nissan Murano.

First of all, I think the following works for '05 and up Nissan Muranos. One thing that I can to find during all of my

research is that some people refer to the cars as "Nismo's" or just "Mo's." This will help when trying to decipher what

people are saying.

I managed to get most of the information from a forum thread located at the iPodLounge, here:

(Thanks to: gquiring, jerseyparts, and Momax)

Once I read all of it, I was basically convinced that this was the interface kit for my car that I had been waiting for.

Basically, I had tried everything to get the iPod to play nicely, but was never fully satisfied with FM transmitters. I

live in a decent sized city, and most stations available already had a radio station using the signal. For those of you

who haven't used one, an FM transmitter works by basically "faking" your radio into thinking that there's a real FM

broadcast coming from inside your car.

There are a few problems with this. For long distances, this becomes a problem, because an "open" signal in one town,

doesn't mean that it will be "open" as you drive from city to city. Another problem is that even if you find "open"

signals, if there's a neighboring signal that is very strong, it will cause interference and crack the sound up. Another

problem, is that you're basically losing sound quality between the conversion from digital to analog FM signal.

Another reason why I chose this adapter was because it was the "official" Nissan adapter, and I'm able to control the

iPod from the steering wheel controls and the factory unit. The nice bonus is that you get to see the song info on the

built in 7" screen.

BASIC STEPS:

STEP 1: Order the part, I used YourNissanParts.com, here's the link:

You can also use one of the followin coupon codes to get a discount.

Coupon Codes: "thespot" or "clbttn"

I've also heard that you can order from here, but this was posted after I had already purchased the kit, so your mileage

may vary.

STEP 2: Lay your back seats down flat, and lift the flap up between the cargo area and the seat. Look for the satellite

plug, it may be behind the driver's side back seat, or the passenger side back seat, in mine, it was behind the passenger

side seat.

STEP 3: Plug in the cable to the unit

STEP 4: Plug in iPod cable to the unit

Step 5: Plug in iPod to the iPod cable.

Step 6: Run wires wherever you want. I took the easy/chicken way out and currently have my iPod in the cargo area, but

it's a hidden/invisible installation, which I like a lot. Some people went the extra mile and connected the harness that

came with the unit, to give the unit an "extension" so that you can run the iPod cable into the center console. This

would also be nice and convenient, however I didn't want to mess with running cables under the carpet, and detaching the

console so taht you can run the cable in. I think a drill is also involved.

Step 7: That's it, you're done. Enjoy!
